Thanked: 30Grey Magic/Black Magic hones
Hi all,
Does anyone know something about these stones?
Have seen them on ebay (https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F202564579007)
Seller keeps the mine secret, very mystical...
Regards
Philipp

Looks like any one of a hundred slates that I've handled. Decent price.

Thanked: 292It may well be a great stone for knife sharpening. Here is the current description from the US eBay site:
The "Black Magic" Natural finishing stone comes from a secret mine, and is an excellent whetstone for kitchen knives. These stones are a bit soft, cut fast, and with proper technique leave a razor sharp edge with a bit of tooth, perfect for use in the kitchen. They are for use with water, and do not need to be soaked. I have a very limited supply. Note: This is a natural stone and each stone is unique and may have flaws, however all are capable of providing an excellent finish in the hands of a skilled sharpener. If you are not pleased, please send it back for a refund. Happy bidding!Dimensions may vary slightly, but are approximately 1.5" x 6" x 1/4" ( Knife shows finished edge only, and is not included in this auction )
Based on the description, I doubt the stone has every been tested on razors. While having a "razor sharp edge with a bit of tooth" might be what you want in a kitchen knife, I suspect it might provide an uncomfortable shave. I doubt it is anywhere near the level of fineness many of us are looking for in a finishing stone for razors.
