Identification of hone in wooden box
Greetings,
A friend came across the hone in the photo below and would like to know more about it. Can someone identify this stone?
Unfortunately this is the only photo I have of the stone

Carborundum? I mean what Norton calls "Crystalon", i.e. silicon carbide. That's what I find every time I lift the lid on a boxed hone
I'm willing to be corrected here if anyone else cares to make a guess.
If you could lap the hone a little to expose a fresh surface we might be able to help.

Is that a slurry stone at one end ? Might make it a natural but not a lot to go on.
The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

The box is typical for hones from Great Britain. The hone itself - the edges are very sharp on all sides. Doesn't look like a natural to me.
