    Default Warping

Hello fella's... Quick questiom. If memory serves when Naniwa started or maybe not started but when guys were giving positive reviews/results from the ss 12000 I read guys complained about them warping and some to the point of not using anymore... I have not heard that complaint in awhile.. Anyone having this issue from new or newer ones? . Because mine has.. In the middle and in one.corner.. Feels a little like looking down a 2×4 .... Any suggestions or replies are always appreciated... Thanks, SMW

Much of the issues related to Naniwas was squashed by the vendors selling them

They swell they always have, the newer ones are better but they still swell, soak them for about 5 minutes and THEN check them for level

Never Lap a Naniwa when they are first sprayed or soaked they need to stabilize first

The combined 3/8 was one of the worst

Let it stabilize then lap and see if letting them stabilize works for you, it sure works for my old ones

Mine stop moving around the 8-10 minute mark. My 8k is the worst and needs at least 10 minutes soaking to stabilize. My 8k is the yellow one not the Snow White. I don’t soak them except to use them. I’ve heard bad things about leaving them submerged for long periods of time though mine haven’t crazed or had any ill effects from soaking for half an hour or so. Some times I get distracted....

Thanks for the tip, John, regarding the yellow 8k Naniwa Super Stone. I had a feeling this one was pre-soaking differently than the others, so I will add another 5 minutes soak time for that lil' yeller bastard.

I have Naniwa super stones, 1K, 3K, 8K, 12K and a 3K/8K combo which was the only one that warped on me. Prior to use I just spray water on them and use. My guess is that the 3K/8K combo warped because they were two dissimilar materials glued together.

This has been well known for years. Whenever it was brought up it was shouted down in many circles. And many blamed the "newbs" calling it user error. Lol.

Yes I actually soak them all,

I will be honest, Hones to me are tools to be used, I am actually pretty hard on them, I abuse them, have left them soaking for hours while my absent-mindedness takes me out to the shop in the middle of a honing session

I haven't found any issues, hell the instructions in Japanese from my Interpeter says point blank to soak them prior to use.. I gave up trying to spread that info at a certain point in time..

I just sent PM's to people when they asked

Tip: Dont soak them too long, they are designed as a splash and go.
