Thanked: 1Diamond pastes for lapping and polishing.
Have any of you tried diamond pastes from Aliexpress with Arkansas stones?
They are quite cheap.
I`m trying to lap/polish my small stone /Arkansas?/ But it`s PITA.
Used 7sheets of sandpaper without results.
Now it`s flattened on cheap lapping plate (diamond) /500/.

Thanked: 3215Lapping with paper is not effective except for finishing. Once the surface is flat then paper can finish a stone face.
For lapping you need loose grit, either Silicone Carbide, inexpensive from Got Grit.com, ($15 for a progression) on a steel cookie sheet. Get flat with 60 grit, or loose Diamond on MDF, imbedding the grit in the flat, softer MDF.
Once flat a progression of Diamond or Silicone Carbide grit will go quickly. Finish on Wet & Dry to the highest grit for the finish you are after.
60 grit loose Silicone Carbide will get most Ark stones flat in 20 minutes or so. There are many threads on lapping Arks.

So, I use diamond paste, CrOx, honing oil and marble plates as finishers. Once I set the bevel (1K) then I sharpen it and smooth it out a bit with a 6K stone. Then move to the CrOx, diamond paste, and marble plates. Finish with canvas and leather stropping. It gives me exactly the edge that I'm looking for. It's smooth, sharp and the edge is even. Very comfortable 2 pass shaves on my face. That's all I care about; close and comfort!

Thanked: 13After you finish with loose grit SiC up to 1200, just get a 3k diamond resin bond pad and it will make translucent like glass. That's all it takes.
