    Default Suehiro Debado LD101

I decided to step away from the Chosera 1k and move to the Suehiro Debado 1k.

The stone received a few coats of Urushi lacquer and last night i gave it a test run, setting the bevel on two Solingen razors.

Strange at first because i've had years on the green brick but i soon came around. The stone is very hard and takes some effort to lap.
The feedback is excellent and i did not want to stop honing on it.
This stone will not be constantly lapped like my old 1k stones but instead it will be cleaned to remove swarf..

Why did you add lacquer to it? As it's a synth stone, might that not cause irregular swelling leading to warping?

    Hi Brontosaurus,
I added lacquer because i don't want it to get mucky n filthy. I would rather just see a glass finish.
There is no actually need for it but it doesn't hurt the stone in any way. I have done it to a number of stones over the years and never seen swelling or any adverse effects. If anything it protects the stone from knocks ..maybe?
    Cheers

Max at JNS seems to think that sealing all hones is good. I don’t have an opinion except naturals with cracks in the sides, but FWIW:

    JKF742:
I always held the Chosera 1k in highest regards since moving over from the Shapton Glass 1K but now i don't want to use it again.
The Debado is like the Gok 20k but with a smooth resistance. It is early days still but i am very impressed.

    Steve:
Sealing synthetics is just preference i think. It never crossed my mind to seal the Chosera 1k but this stone being pure white i knew i'd take that option.

I just learnt that the Chosera is a lot more aggressive.. The Debado cuts like a 1k but in a more uniform manner . If that makes sense??
