Thread: HARD COTICULE

Here is a recent flea market acquisition, a very hard and dark Coticule. A little over 6 x1.5 inches.

It is the color of lite Carmel as seen in photos next to a normal yellow Coticule, and even after lapping lightens up just a little. The slurry is milk white and very hard to slurry.

The later photos are after several minutes of lapping under running water with a 140 Atoma. The stone is much harder than any Coticule I have ever lapped.

There is a large deep pit in the middle of the stone as shown in the pics where the stone was gridded. It will take some more lapping and removing a bit of the ends to lap flat. I may resort to loose diamonds or silicon carbide, when I have more time.

The BBW side is also much darker than most of the BBW’s I have seen, it is a deep purple almost brown, much more like Vosigine.

Any thought on this stone? Once I get it flat, I will put a razor to it.

Very nice stone there! I saw a similar stone and the guy said it was decently fast and a really nice finisher.

A deep pit may be a hole left by a piece of grit. If there was one there might be more. Check that hone out with a junk razor before you put your precious razors on the stone.

I noticed the blue spots and feathering, in yours, and how it slurries. I've also have a hard Coti, slow to slurry w/ DMT. good finisher. ! But what brings me to thought, is the blue specks, or in my case, layered. Is it feasible to think, these may have come from the same area/ or mine.
