    Default Synthetic progression recommendation.

    Hey guys,

Just in general I’d like to know what set of synthetics you’d recommend in 2020 to someone who’s in lockdown and has enough money to buy a new set. Coronavirus has got me a bit bored and my HAD has flared once again out of boredom.

    Thanks,

    Scott

Hey Scott, as always I think my Naniwas are the bees knees and the ones to get.

    The new super stones?

I had the Naniwa pro's and they had issues with crazing, and the cracks were tactile. I could feel them when honing. Luckily the vendor let me return the set. I wish they hadn't cracked because I loved the speed of them.

Well Paul’s finest ships for free and if I was going to get something to replace my Chosera, I’d look at the tradition series. You drop them an email and see if the traditional is the the same as the traditional.

They are soakers not splash and go. Why they didn't make a 3 or 4k is beyond me. I don't know if I'd want to jump 1-6k ?

    I jump 1 to 5 easily enough.
I still think you should call or email Paul. There is also a knife sharpening guy that has a review on Paul’s site. I know it’s not the same thing but it will give you a hands on review.

I have a king 1/6k and I do not like the time it takes to polish out the 1k scratches with a 6k. I want a fast progression.

I see the traditional has a 2k, what about that 2-6k, seems more easily doable. Good suggestion!

I have chosera 1k, 5kSS and 12k SS. I have an 8k shapton water stone or something but I dont like it, probably going to get the naniwa 8k SS. I always finish on a natural though and rarely use the 12k

I used the naniwa 3k ss before and it was a real pleasure as well.

Not that I have used the king, but the naniwas are suppose to be very fast. All I know is them and the Norton’s, and comparing those two the Naniwas are blindingly fast.
