    Default Stone Identification

    Hello everyone,

I just bought this paddle with a stone on one side and leather on the other.

Could any of you help me identify the nature of this stone?

Hello and welcome to the forum. Hard to tell from the pictures. If you could clean the stone and take some pics with better lighting it might be easier. Take a close up of the chipped area it may yield a clue. It could be a barber hone.

No clue but most small hones like that were designed for travel and touch up work so most were pretty unremarkable.

Yea, if you clean it up maybe one of our hone experts might be able to tell what it is.

It looks to be a light brown or tan. Makes me think barber hone. Ive heard of Arkansas stone being part of a paddle but its just not looking like one.

    Hello,

I rubbed a "Rouge de Salm" on the stone and here is the slurry produced.

I also note after cleaning the surface the appearance of a vein like on the Belgian coticule stones.

Well if Peter says so then enough is said but I also agree. That's a nice little combination. Good find!
