Hone ID help, Escher Thuringian ?
Recently received this “pair” of water hones from a Canadian auction site. E. Co. Cup or chalice label suggests an early Escher & Co. hone. The single Red cardboard box with “stapled” corners seems to fit perfectly for the stone. Both stones measure 5” x 2” x .4”. As found photos. Appreciate comments and discussion from those familiar with old Escher stones. Thanks, Austin

Thanked: 44Nice!, Kind of a strange thickness though.
Did the stone split? Do the pieces fit together as if they were one?
Not sure they ever made them that thin.

Thanked: 1081They appear to be blue/blue,green Eschers and should impart a smooth edge. Give em a lapping and hone away!

They are two different stones, the exact same size. Nothing on either stone suggests they were ever a single/glued stone. Either stone fits perfectly in the red cardboard box. Think the thickness was unusual as well. Have lapped one and nothing seems strange about the slurry.

Both seem to give a nice grey/green slurry with 600 DMT. Put a finished edge on two razors today and looked good both passing the HHT. Will give them test shave soon.

Thanked: 1081The Escher colours are yellow, green and blue and variations of the three, ie yellow/green, dark blue.
If you wet them the colours will stand out more.
