Thanked: 0Thanks for following up with them. There can be lots of reasons why they did not respond, and there can be more reason why an email lost in transmission(I wasn't behind a firewall and have not received a transmission failure email yet but that does not mean the email wasn't lost neither). I really took that as a lottery, I saw the listing while I was looking for 0.1 diamond powder on AliExpress...
Not sure how soon I can receive the 30K, I bought it just to get to the bottom of the rabbit hole. Almost the end of a saga...

Thanked: 0That's exactly how mine behaved. Started with very minor cracks in the center, and then spread to other places. Now I have ~0.5mm cracks at the sides and corners. It's probably still good for knives...
I suspect it's the moisture got sucked in and the binder some how expanded unevenly.

Thanked: 3Hi Paul
When you first told me your stone showed some pitting when you first lapped it, I already feared yours would eventually show these small cracks too, because my first 15K behaved exactly as yours and my second one does not. I just want to let you know I still use mine and the cracks seem to slowly dissapear and for now don't return after lapping after each use. I only lap this often because of the cracks and as mine is VERY hard and you can hardly see it wear down. You just might give the lapping a try for a while.
Kind regards,
Peter.

I'm re-reading through this thread and must have missed this... Are you finishing on slurry with the 15K? I also have good results on using light slurry on this stone, but I always finish with at least 5 laps on clear water, so if you want to add sharpness, that is what I would suggest.
Kind regards, Peter.

Yes I have been diluting the slurry out. I basically always do no matter which stone it is. At the very end, once the water dilutes to clear I will wash off any residual from the stone and the blade and do some laps before cleaning up and stropping.

Thanked: 0It's so much fun to see people doing the same thing in so many different ways. I typically don't use slurry at all, except that recently I got annoyed by scratches on the bevel so I used it to get a cloudy finish. Are you able to get mirror finish off the 15K? I was able to but now I'm not so comfortable to use it any more.

Hey Peter, just to give you an update that Alex got back to me and asked my address so that he could arrange a replacement. I replied with the address and also asked him whether he could help to recall the problematic batch.
Look forward to receiving the updated version.

Thanked: 0I've just received the replacement from Taidea. The working surface of the new one was much better than last one. However, there were still fair bit of lapping needed to get it ready to hone razors. Tried it with a pocket knife and it behaved almost identical to the last one, cutting fast, easy to clean. I'm curious to see how this one goes. Hopefully no issues.
