Default Trust Amazon atoma or DMT?

    Hey all
Would you trust an Amazon source atoma lapping plate? They are 50 dollars cheaper than lee valley.

    Thanks!

    Matt

If it is an "Atoma" I would, the good thing about Amazon is its easy to send it back!

Just for relevance I have tested a couple of the cheap Amazon 400/1000 plates over the last few years

They are plenty flat for our needs, they work just fine after you knock off the high diamonds just like every other more expensive Diamond plate

No doubt the Atoma, Trend, Shapton DMT are higher quality but at $25 ish for the Amazon ones they are a deal

I've been using this exact plate for months now per glens recommendations and I've had zero issues with it.

    My plate finally arrived

First thing I saw was a warning not to wash with water. Should you use a honing fluid?

also, clean before using. No directions on how to do that

You read the directions ??? I am impressed

I have always used Barkeepers Friend and a Brass Brush to clean all my Plates including the cheapo, haven't had issues

    Which one did you get

I have always either sharpened an old kitchen knife or a small Hatchet on any new plate before use
