    Default Thuringian Brand - Question

    Guys,

I recently bought this ton on the Bay, it arrived in very bad condition, but after lapping it I used it on a couple of modern Razors and I loved the result.

I am restoring the wooden box I will post some pictures once finish.

I am collecting Thurys sing quite a while now, I never seen this brand before, anyone can help with some information on this STAR BRAND?

Anyone that came across the same can Help?

    Thank you in Advance.

It is a brand of Thuringian that was recommended in Barber textbooks back in the 30,40-50's.

    Thank You!

I am not familiar with this book, is it possible to buy it? Could you share some more details?

This is the only one I have seen it in. It is actually from the late 1800's
    Most only recommend the "WaterHone"

    You're welcome.
It's not actually a Barbering Textbook but its good info from someone who knew his stuff.
You never normally hear references about hard or soft steel in razors in old Barbering books. This guy had experience!
I think it was that same book that talks about razors getting "tired" in that if they are honed on the same hone all the time they may need a change periodically to respond well.

Read page 19 heading "Cure for tired razors" for an explanation.
The level of detail throughout the book tells of someone who knows and uses his tools well and was more versed in the routine than most at that time at least IMO.

I believe in his book he mentions that you shouldn't use the same stones all the time?

Sort of, click on the link I added and go to the bottom of the page. There are arrows that when scrolled over say flip right or flip left to turn the page.
Flip right to get to the next page and it's on the right side with a heading "Cure for tired razors"
