Thanked: 0cutting a hone
I have a 12K Chinese stone and am thinking about cutting it lengthwise. I have a table saw and maybe I could find a blade that would cut stone??? Anyone have advice? Anyone done it? Thanks.

The heat buildup would be immense. Generally these things are cut with a wet diamond saw. You should not attempt to use your table saw for this, it's not meant to do that and there are no table saw blades designed to cut 1 1/2" thick abrasive stone. Whatever you do, don't attempt to use a regular or carbide tipped blade for this unless you want to eat tons of smoking hot stone chips and carbid blade tips.

As Floppy shoes said a water saw. Tile setters working with ceramic and marble use them. If you can find a tile setter you might be able to get the job done for a nominal fee.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Or if you have a lapidary shop near they would have the correct diamond blades saw which is liquid cooled usually with a combination of oil and water and has a gravity feed loading system.

Thanked: 586In my area there are many places that rent tools for very reasonable rates (in fact there's a very famous case of an airline pilot named Crafts who rented a wood chipper from a place about three miles from my house which he used to chop his wife up). Anyway you can rent a tile saw from any rental center. Here's a link for Home Depot's tile saw rental but I try to avoid Home Depot:
