Well, just ordered one of these and I hope to give it a good "workout". I only have a Norton 4k/8k, so I should be able to test if it does anything for the edge after the 8k.

    Will report when tested.

    Nice one Steven.
You will need to smooth and flatten one side before you can put anything finer than a machete near it. Mine was so rough when it arrived I'm convinced the mine is actually putting a texture on the hone!
I noticed the end was beautifully smooth/fine, so I knew it could be high grit.
The guy working the mine rang me about a month after I got it asking who were all these people buying them and what did they think of the hone.
He said the stones are only good for "finishing" so he knows something.

I'll be in the doghouse when my wife sees that I ordered something else (way can't I use Paypal for everything that I want?), but I had to buy one of these today. I'll be putting it through the paces as well.

I just had a thought - no funnies!
I wonder if the guy is putting a texture on them because he can't see that a stone this hard and fine is of any use?
    How wrong he is! possibly?

    Default dt

i used that dt hone on a dixon cutlery razor i found at a local antique shop. it cuts much faster than my chinese 12k but gives a pretty good edge. i might use them as a pair now. and it took less than a month to get it. bit on the thin side, maybe someone with clout could convince them to cut some stones 1" thick.

    What you order you get,
I got 10x3x1" wit 1x3x1" but I had to go there personally and explain to the boss what and why I want it. And of course the price was different. Waiting time was 3 days for pick up. No box included and had to lap it myself.

The DT is faster than the C12k because it's nowhere near as fine. Common estimates for the DT are in the 6-8k range, and I found it leaves about the same finish as a BBW. You certainly can shave off it, but it's not a finisher.

Cheers for the heads up littlesilverbladefromwale.

I'll give it a good lap on my DMT DC8. That should make it nice and smooth.
