Default Pour vous francophones: littérature sur Coticule

But not to exclude anyone, in English:

I've just uploaded 'Sur la structure et la composition minéralogique du coticule et sur ses rapports avec le phyllade oligistifère' by A. Renard in the Wiki. This is an early work on the Coticule. It originates in a lecture of Octobre 21st 1876, and was published in Mémoires Couronnés et mémoires des savants étrangers publiés par l'Académie Royale des sciences, des lettres et des beaux-art de Belgique in 1878. If I'm not mistaken, Renard was 1873 the first to use the term 'coticule' in a scientific context. Image quality could be better, but it's readable. A zip of large images can be downloaded here (46MB) and resized ones here (4MB).

I've also included "Ardoise et coticule en Terre de Salm - Des pierres et des Hommes" in the Wiki. This is a truely stunning book. It contains a wealth of information on the coticule and BBW, and on geological, cultural, social and ecological aspects of its mining. There a numerous plates, old photo's, diagrams, maps etc. to grace its 400+ pages. To quote Bart:

The charpter about the chemical composition of Coticule-stone and it's blue nephew, written by Prof. Eric Goemaere, is the most comprehensive text I have read so far
Postage may make it a bit expensive for those overseas (it weighs over 2kg), but at €25 I think it's a real steal. It's only available through the secretariat of the Geological Survey of Belgium and in the shop of the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences. Those who want to know more, click here for eg a downloadable sample chapter and ordering info.

To download a standard chapter of the book

"Eric Goemaere (ed.): "Ardoise et Coticule en Terre de Salm", 2008 (Slate and Coticule in the Salm Region), 2008".

The selected extract deals with « L’Atelier Burton » by E. Goemaere - in PDF format:

By the way. "L'atelier Burton" is the company that Maurice Celis took over and is since know as "Ardennes Coticule", the only operational Coticule mining company in the world. That makes the article of special interest, imho.

    nice find!
