Glad you all have great results with the Shapton GS 16k, my results are mix'd feelings due to glasing. The edge is great though. I'm still playing with it to find out where it will fit in my line up...

Thanks for the idea. I'll skip the pastes next time and go right to the canvass and leather.

When i first got my bbw/yellow i got the same wow and did'nt use any paste just to get the results soley from my cotis and i did'nt need paste i have used .5 dp and find it can be a little harsh so i go back to to coti.Any one out there that would say for a fact 16k wouls improve after finishing with coti and if so would say better finisher than coticule.

I have an extra fine Vintage Coticule a beautiful stone...

The edge off of it is silken, but not even close, I mean not in the same realm as the sharpness/smoothness of a Shapton 16

I have shaved just off the stones too, as every person that calls themselves a Honemiester should try, think you can hone, then put away the strops and find out for sure ....

Keep in mind this is my own opinion, with me on the hones, and my razors, shaving my beard, but you did ask for an opinion

Glen thank you for your opinion i can well believe what your saying i tend to use 4k 8k nortons then bbw s/yellow water i no bruno sold his coticule and i think he got the 16k to use after his 4k 8k becauase it gave him sharper edge than coti i may get 16k i supose i could use this for touch ups and after my 4k 8k or after my bbw/coti. How do you use yours?

When I first bought the 16k I used it after the Norton 4/8.... for the last year I have used it in the Shapton complete system.... I have not gone after one of those terribly expensive 30k's yet either, someday I might....

Some more votes from the Shapton 16k fans! I'll have to tally up the totals in my Shapton vs Naniwa thread to see which stone has the proverbial "edge" .

For about $100, the Shapton 16K is the best overall deal in the polishers that I've used. Very fast, and the feedback/feel is amazing, great draw. Maybe 5X faster than a Chinese 12K, worth the additional cost.

I use mine after a Coticule. Japanese naturals are honestly better finishers, but cost way more and are harder to find and protect compared to the Shaptons. Stroke for stroke, the Shapton 16K actually removes bevel scratch marks faster than a Japanese natural in my experience. Finishing with a Chrome Ox pasted strop after the Shapton 16K, it's a similar polishing result, very smooth shaving.

The only thing I don't like about them is that they load up pretty easily and require frequent cleaning for maximum speed and consistency. I use an inexpensive artificial "Nagura stone" I bought at Woodcraft to clean mine under running water, and rinse it well to remove any grit residue afterwards. Like new every time.

You should - I did my razor up to 30K glass using a pyramid, no stropping.

    Like butta.

Next I try the Pros up to 30K.....
