    Default NANIWANA HONE QUESTIONS.

iT SEEMS TO ME THAT THESE STONES HAVE BEEN TAKING OFF IN POULARITY. wHATS GREAT TO ME ABOUT THEM IS THAT YOU CAN HAVE YOUR WHOLE HONING PROGRESSION FROM TOP TO BOTTOM IN ONE SET OF STONES SO THAT THEY SHOULD WORK PERFECTLY TOGETHER. sOMETIMES I FEEL GOING FROM A MAN MADE STONE TO A NATURAL STONE BACK TO A MAN MADE BLA BLA BLA MAKES THE PROCESS A LITTLE CONFUSING AND HARD TO DIFFERENTIATE WHAT STONE IS DOING WHAT. wITH THESE STONES YOU CAN START AT A LOW GRIT AND WORK YOUR WAY UP AND SIMPLY NO FOR A FACT THAT YOU ARE GOING IN THE RIGHT SEQUENCE. wHAT MY SEQUENCE HAS BEEN FOR A WHILE NOW IS DMT 1200 THEN COTI WITH THICK SLURRY THEN BBW WITH THINNER SLURRY THAN BACK TO YELLOW WITH JUST WATER AND I FINISH ON A SHAPTON PRO SERIES 12 K. i USUALY WILL USE A BALSA PADDLE PASTED WITH CRMOX AFTER THE STONES AND THEN LEATHER. i HAVE BEEN HAVING GOOD RESULTS WITH THIS IN FACT I SOLD MY NORTON 4/8K BECAUSE I LIKED MY LITTLE 10 DOLLAR COMBO FROM THE ANTIQUE SHOP WITCH WAS A HELL OF A FIND. i LIKE TO HONE WITH IT IN MY HAND I FOUND THAT BETTER THAN SITTING MY NORTON ON THE TABLE IN FRONT OF ME.
tHE QUESTION I HAVE IS WOULD IT BE WORHT THE INVESTMENT TO PURCHASE A SET OF THESE NEW JAPANESE HONES OR AM I GRASPING AT STRAWS TRYING TO FIND THE ULTIMATE EDGE? i AM HAVING GOOD RESULTS WITH WHAT I HAVE BUT COULD I DO BETTER WITH THESE HONES? i THINK I WOULD DEFINATELY CHOOSE THESE OVER THE SHAPTON HONES A BECAUSE OF PRICE AND B I HAVE BEEN HEARING SUCH GOOD THINGS ABOUT THEM. fEEDBACK IS APPRECIATED FELLAS

Please don't take offense but..... typing in all caps on a message board or in an email is known as shouting.

I was doing the same thing on altpipes.org years ago and was made aware of it. Text is easier to read if the writer puts a space between sentences every so often.

By doing this people are far more likely to read what you've written.

Sorry I can't help with the Naniwa question. I haven't tried them yet.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

The naniwas are good hones, but they aren't miracle workers. If what you are using is working for you, then you have to decide how badly you want to try something new. Also, it's going to depend on how many razors you intend to hone. I got by for several years with just a Swaty, but I was only maintaining my own razors. Only you can decide if you are grasping at straws.
