Default Did I find a Coticule?

I just won an auction for these razor hones on the 'bay.

Am I mistaken, or is there a man-made BBW/Coticule combination stone in there? The seller said something about one with a light side and darker side having some patching. Looks like it might have been joined with RTV.

I figured It couldn't hurt to place a small bid, but I didn't expect much with all of the hones being nabbed lately. Go figure that I actually won.

Did I actually get a coticule, even if it's not that big?

    Looks just like one.
Also the other stuff ... after a bit of lapping there could be something useful in there.
    How much did you pay?

I was figuring the same thing, but I decided not to bid on junk- ie stuff that will take a lot of work in areas I am not experienced, rather save my money for better newer stuff that I can learn on. I always get caught up and I figured that it would go for something high so I just left it. Congrats!

With shipping, the lot cost me about $25. The shipping basically doubled the cost of the auction.

I've got a couple of razors in the hands of a restorer and need to be able to pay for the work being done, so I may sell the barber hones after they're lapped to make up part of the cost.

Does anyone know what the red one is that looks like a block that's been wrapped in leather? I can't remember ever seeing that type before.

That's a nice lot, several of those could be useful.

You mentioned possibly selling a barber hone when you're done lapping it. If you're serious about it, please PM me when you're ready to sell, as I'd like to buy one in good condition.

I only have one barbers hone myself so I am definately no expert, but the only barber one I know of with a leather backing, is the Cushion Strop Hone, so it might be one of those.

I agree with the above, you've got yourself a coticule!. The one on the left is some kind of Swaty clone and the one on the right looks like a cushion strop hone.
The coticule alone justified your payment so the rest of it is gravy!
