Thanked: 132Help with unknow hone identification....?
Just recently got this old hone and was wondering if i could get some help with identifying it.
What i've observed so far, is that it seems to be made of some type of ceramic, similar to barber hones...ive listed it in the center of a three line swaty and a pike swaty for comparison.
Visually it looks the same, however, there seems to be red speckles in it. It laps the same and after running a couple razors over it, it does make the edges quite sharp and sticky to the touch....ive just never seen one this size.
Dimensions: Approx. 8x2x1
Many thanks,
Mac

Thanked: 3795If you turn it over, does the other side say "Swaty" on it?
Just kidding. Swaty did make an 8" version though. I know of two members other than myself that have one.
Many companies made clones of the Swaty hone. Your photo shows one of them--the Pike Swaty. There were many similar hones made that did not bother with an imprint, and I would assume your 8" hone to be one of them. Absent an imprint, label, or box, I doubt you are going to get any more information about that hone.

Thanked: 132Thanks so much for the help!
I was pretty excited, at the possibility, of getting a longer "barber-type" hone. However, with this hone i wasn't sure if i should continue putting my razors to it, without your guys observations. There is no identifying marks and i wasnt sure about the red speckles.
Thanks again,
Mac
