    Default How About Those Garnets

    Since we all like to talk about our hones and we talk about garnets I thought I'd show you some of mine:

    Dodecahedrons- Iron Garnets from Roxbury, Connecticut but don't try to hone with them. They're too big.

    What grit are those garnets? Could I use them for bevel setting?

    I have a pretty big mineral collection and those are the iron garnets from the collection which I collected myself around 35 years ago. I probably have 5 or 6 different types of garnets.

    Be cool to do up/decorate some scales with smaller slices of a stone like that...no?

    Well, I guess you could but those particular ones are pretty ugly. There are others which are just nicer colors and that are translucent to transparent.

    While taking the farey down from Haines Junction, AK. we stopped at one of the islands in the route. Picked up a few rocks with garnets in them. Would be cool to know if the matrix was serviceable as a hone No clue...
