Thanked: 132We've been seeing alot of these lately...
This is a stone i recently aquired...
I'm guessing its a Charnley Forest, but i could use some confirmation/disagreement, from the experts.
The stone is olive green with maroon/purple swirls in it. It laps fairly easy, (compared to Arkansas,) and produces a milky substrate.
Dimensions: 9.5"x2.25"x1", (24x5.5x2.8cm.)
Input/comments are very welcome. Is this a finishing stone? If so, what other stones would you compare it to?
Thanks,
Mac

Thanked: 271It looks like a Charnley Forest to me. I have one and it is a very fine finishing hone. I have been told that it leaves a slightly sharper and smoother edge than an Escher (which I do not have). I shave directly off of mine and am very pleased with the results.

most likely cf. middle picture gives more information. Try use with oil. light pressure and 30-100 laps will be plenty enough. it does give to blade very smooth shave. great find. have fun and enjoy

As Sham said it is hard to tell from photos. Here is an old thread with photos for comparison to yours and some dialogue that might help.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 132Thanks Olivia.
Does anyone know what these stones are made of? I will try googling, but thats not always reliable.
It has an interesting feel to it. It kind of feels like a very hard bar of soap. lol
Thanks,
Mac
