CRYSTITE
This hone came from a lot that included the other barber hones. It looks pretty different to me. I noticed when lapping it that the slurry looked like pea soup. the dimensions are 2" by 4". The hone itself is pea soup green.
the seller made a big deal about it being rare and expensive.
it is made by the American Hone Company.

Hmmmm... pea soup you say? Have you been tempted to try to eat it yet? My Swaty reminds me of a chocolate bar, but I've yet to take a bite.

Thanked: 2209FWIW...the AM Hone Co made lots of hones. I doubt that it is rare although I have not seen that name before. They may be the same (parent?) company as the American Hone Company in Monrovia Iowa. I suspect that the hone companies engaged in private label marketing just like the german razor mfg did.
As your probably aware most barber hones are "touch up" hones. Give it a try and lets us know what you think.Last edited by randydance062449; 07-20-2009 at 07:21 AM.

You can't see it in the pix but it as that variation in color that pea soup has also.
I describe lots of things in terms of food. Most of the things are things that you wouldn't touch willingly let alone eat.
I must think about food a lot.
Did try a few swipes with it yesterday. The scratch pattern was finer than any of my other barber hones. I have yet to shave with anything off of it.

So I'm just looking again and I see it's from Olean; if I'm not mistaken there was a razor company there too (Union Cutlery?). I wonder if they were affiliated.

Found this on a knife site:
Ka-Bar's history goes back to the Tidioute Cutlery Company, which was founded in Pennsylvania in 1898. Out of the failure of that company, the Union Razor Company was formed in 1902. The name was changed again in 1909 to Union Cutlery Company then moved to Olean, New York in 1910. The Ka-Bar® trademark was introduced in the 1920's and around 1942 the company submited a Ka-Bar branded knife to the U. S. Marine Corps. The Ka-Bar® knife became so well known and so important to the company, that in 1952 the company name was changed to Ka-Bar® Cutlery, Inc.
