    That is exactly what it is. Depending on how far you went it may be perfectly fine for razor honing though. I had taken my 1200 to work to lap Nortons that I keep there for honing when I have free time.

    I noted the black residual stuff on my white 4k and was puzzled. Around that time Sham posted about going through the nickel on his 1200. So I stopped using it to lap and stick with the DMTC and XX.

    The good news for me is that I didn't ruin my plate rather I broke it in well for setting bevels as it is not as prone to leaving micro chips as it was before but it still cuts efficiently. Give yours a try it may be better rather than worse.
    Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

    It seems the swaty's drink. After lapping one I left it slightly wet and it left a water mark. So I wet it all and it turned red again. Also with use they change colour and get smoother it seems.
