Thanked: 77I'm getting barber hone anyway!
Well - I ended up on the bay and won a set of 3 barber hones:
3 Old Barber Razor Hones - John Jay - Swatty - Pike NR
I'm now thinking of the following setup: Naniwas - 1K, 3K, 5k, 8k (and 2 lapping stones). I don't really need them immediately, but long term I'd like to have a go at restorations and razor making / knife making.
Btw - I told my 7 yr old son that since I was getting 3 barber hones, if he and his brother became straight razor users when they grew up, they could have one each.
His reply - "I'm going to use a safety razor."
(Kids - and their new-fangled technologies...)
(So much for his having a go at straight shaving with the butter knife...)
Thanks again for your advice and thoughts,
Michael.Last edited by FTG; 08-06-2009 at 10:51 AM.

Thanked: 77I've gone and done it!
Ok - I've done it: Just ordered my Naniwas and am waiting on the barber stones from the bay.
Lapping stones (for the hones not the razor...)
1k Naniwa
3K Naniwa
5K Naniwa
Barber hone
I'll see how that meets my needs... now, just need to stop looking at razors in need of sharpening on the bay!
Thanks again for the advice and comments,
Michael.
