Thread: Pradalungha or not Pradalungha?

In the name of science, shall I or shall I not?

The Pradalungha is a quarzit from Italy and available in two grades.
Middle fine F 280-320
and fine F 500-600

Its available here: Natürliche Schleifsteine und Wetzsteine
and not even too expensive.

Has anybody tried them yet?

The "Fine" would be a bevel-setter, right? I looked on a conversion chart and it seems to be around a Norton 1k-1.5k.

Looks like you could get the behemoth at the bottom of the page shipped to you for 30 Euro total. I say go for it and report your findings!

I live just few kilometers far from Pradalunga. My grandfather has been using a Pradalunga stone for his entire life, but only to hone his sickle as 97% of old italian farmers during the past century. ..Razors? mmm..

Seems interesting! I'm looking for a natural bevel setter too, but here the standard shape for Pradalunga hones - for a fair price - is this (and here you can read that they have been mentioned since 79 a.C., used with water). Also, they are called.. coti!

I'll give a chance to my Candia stone before, but that website could be a good option. Pay attention, since Pradalunga stones (aka Cotis) sometimes are sintetic stones sold under the same name (I've read sometimes that Pradalunga stones are available as natural or sintetic stones ).

If that can be a synthetic stone
I'll make a test - or more than one!
Its clearly offered as a natural and fear me if it isn't!

if you´re looking for a natural bevel setter,
why not go for a japanese Aoto?

At Kochmesser, Küchenmesser, Schleifsteine aus Japan - Japan-Messer-Shop.de you can get very, very nice naturals: an Aoto for about 50€ (or if you ask for uneven or scratched ones maybe even a little cheaper).
But they are huge and are known to have extreme cutting power
and refine themselfes, so you start at 1.000 and end at 2/3.000
(well I don´t know if that is true... could be just a very agressive 2k)
Just tell them what you are looking for, they have a lot more than those on their site
