    well it's recommended by the manufacturer so i guess it would work.
    it's only recently that vendors have starting carrying it so i don't think many people have it. plus a lot of us had other lapping hones when we got naniwas and use those.

    as far as lapping goes you'll need some good lapping initially. i did what glen told me to do - lap the hone well (pencil grid and all), leave it to dry completely then lap it again well.
    i don't hone too many razors so i lap them before every use. the 8000 and 12000 don't get much action because all the work happens on the lower grits, it's mostly to refresh the surface so that it's not glazed.

    leaving them wet for a minute or two before honing is certainly helpful.
