i have a 8,000 and 12,000 naniwa super stones...
would like to get the set needed from setting the bevel to ready to go......
im gonna buy the 1,000 but i dont know weather to buy the 3,000 or 5,000 didn't know if they were bolth needed for the sharpening stage?....

Isn't there an 800 / 5,000 naniwa superstone combination hone? I thought I have seen that before, maybe would be your answer

I use the 1 to set the bevel if necessary and the 3 and 5 for sharpening. IME the 8 is enough for polishing but of course you can go beyond that with a 10 or 12 and I often do. Just IMO.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 143SRD sells the 5k-8k-12k as a set so I take that as some sort of recommendation from the experts.
Anyway, I bought that plus the 1k.

That's what I have & it works fine. You don't really need the 3K--OK, maybe HAD might say differently.
Coming off the 1K, the 1st set of 40 circles & 10 x-strokes w/ light pressure AFAIK does pretty much what the 3K would do anyway.
