    Default Another stupid hone question

I hate to even ask, but which hone should I buy next. I have a 1k and a norton 4k/8k. I have only honed 3 razors, but I am hooked. The cheaper the better. At this point, the first name I hear 3 times, I am buying it. Thanks

I'd go with some sort of finishing hone.

Naniwa 12k, Shapton 16k, or perhaps a natural. Good luck on that whole "first name I hear 3 times" thing. That's the road to full blown H.A.D.

I'd aim for the Naniwa as well, but many like the Shapton 16k, affordable also. Mine has become a doorstop as I really don't like the S 16k, personal choice really.

I use a Coticule and an Oohira japanese hone now and couldn't be happier.

Naniwa 12,000 it is. Would a Naniwa 220 lapping plate work for my norton 4/8?

Lapping plates are expensive. On a flat worktop use a piece of sandpaper.

if you have norton 4/8 after this there is no cheap solution. May be chinese 12k.
