Default My new hones (very happy!)

    Hi!

I finally got my first set of hones. I am very excited about them and I cannot wait to try them to see results.

It's a BBW + Yellow Coticule + Slurry stone bought directly from Ardennes at a total cost of roughly 95€. I think is a very reasonable price.

    Any particulary advice on these?

    Thanks!

Nice looking stones! Have fun with them.

Edit: As for advice, assuming they are lapped, which they may or may not be, I don't know how they send them, take a little while getting to know them. Stop more often than you would normally and see how each stone affects the edge during each stage of honing. Especially with and without slurry, and with varying consistencies. I have found that I can develop a much greater "understanding" and relationship with natural stones than I have been able to so far with artificial. I also happen to get better edges on them so far, too.

Congrats on your first hones. May they be the only hones you ever buy or need. IOW I hope you won't follow in the footsteps of those of us with HAD. Stick with those and discover their secrets and they will be all that you will need.

Here is an archived thread on honing with the blue and yellow and here is another from the SRP Wiki.

Excellent choice, for your first hones. I find coticules to be particularly interesting due to their large range of capabilities.

They will need lapping i'm sure won't take long on some p600 wet and dry or dmtc i don't no what you have. I started out with manmade hones i ptrefer the bbw /coti i now own quite a thew. you will love the smoothness and feel whilst honing you may need just a 1k hone for real bevel setting i would recomend you get 1k naniwa. just read every thing you can and try thats how i did it you have coti slurry stone you will need one for blue as well .
