    Default My Shaptons!

    Hey all,

So the last couple of stones arrived today that complete my Shapton set. They are great stones, I love them so far! I've really enjoyed using them, and have many many many more hours of honing/bonding to go with them.

Yes, I got the ENTIRE set of the glass stones. Am I crazy? Probably. But who cares, I'm having fun.

So in the first pic you can see my new set which includes: 220, 500, 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 6000, 8000, 16000, and the 30000 stones, the DGLP and the stone holder.

The second pic shows ALL of my honing buddies. In addition to the Shaptons, I have a DMT D8C, DMT D6EF, coticule, vintage thuringian, and my Nakayama (with little matching slurry stone).

So I am VERY pleased with this new set of stones, and I confidently believe I am ready for any honing situation!

Anyways, here are the pics. Enjoy!

P.S. I forgot to thank the man who made this all possible. Thanks Tom (jendeindustries) for all of the help, great service, and fast shipping! You are my Shapton hero.

Wow! Let me know what life is like with only one arm and a leg.

Seriously though, I'm a bit jealous. those are some great stones. I have them all but the 16k,30k, holder and the lapping plate.

You've got the set, to be sure. Don't use the GDLP on that 220!

Don't worry, I lapped the 220 and 500 (just to be safe) with my DMT. The GDLP (or DGLP) works wonders on the Shaptons, and leaves a great surface on the stones. I use it under a constant stream of water with the stones secured in the holder. I've read your posts about the DGLP and how you have to treat it with respect and a fine instrument.

Oh, and I do have HAD for sure, I never denied that! And it was worth it, you only really need 1 arm to hone anyways, I still have 1 leg left to pawn for some more hones.

I know I didn't need the whole set, but I know once I have my bevel set, I'll really only need a few strokes per stones to get the job done. And I got the whole set off the bat because I know if I didn't get the non-essentials (i.e. the 220, 3000, 6000...) it would bug me in the long-run, so just bite the bullet and get 'em all the first time.

On the few razors I've used the 30k it's worked very well. I still think I prefer my Nakayama-ed edge, but I also have more experience with my Nakayama. I'll need to practice more and more with these stones, when I have time, and will get to know them the more I use them. I'm in no rush though, as I'm getting pretty good results and am just enjoying the ride.

WOWZA, that's a lot of Shaptons! Great set!
You know what? I always wished that they made Shaptons in a 2" width. I'd definitely own a lot more of them, then.

Nice rocks. (If we ever want to trap you we'll use a dull razor as the bait.)
