Thanked: 121Defective Norton 1K???
My Norton 1K does not behave as it should, IMO. I'm fairly new at this, but I am capable of taking old, neglected blades and getting them shave sharp.
But setting the bevel on my Norton takes forever. No swarf appears. It feels to my fingertip exactly like my 4K. The 4K and the 1K absorb water at the same rate.
So... has anyone has a similar experience? Anyone heard of the factory maybe mistakenly colored a lot of 4Ks as 1Ks?
I have flattened the stone several times, up to 800 grit wet-dry. I noticed that one small area in a corner which the paper did not get to is rougher than the flattened area. The difference is easily visible to the naked eye, and to touch. Is it possible that 800 grit truing has smoothed the stone face excessively? Would dropping down to say 300 improve things?
Thanks.

Interesting. just have one dull old blades and go headmake 50 strokes see what happens.?you don't have to go down 300 grit.
