Default Looking for different polishing stone

Since i've found my great grandfathers natural combo coticule, i've honed a set of 8 razors that i would say are shave ready. I want to get into restoration, as well as making my own custom razors and when i go to hone them i want to be able to hone them without worrying about using that hone all the time. I don't wanna spend a fortune on another hone (college student, hours getting cut at work) so what is a good suggestion? I have a King 1k & 6K, I'm going to get a Norton 4k, 8k just need a nice finishing stone.

Cheapest would probably be Chinese "12k" and/or Chromium Oxide.

How does the finish of the 12k compare with the coticule?

A yellow coticule used with water only is a nice finishing stone following a Norton 8k. Some coticules might be as fine as a Chi 12k. I don't know how much coticule surface is on your natural but if you're not setting bevels with it the yellow should last for a long time.

Joed and Holi4pirating were getting great edges finished on the 12k and have posted about it. I hear it is a slow cutter though and some think the quality is inconsistant between stones. If you get a good one I hear they are real good. I have one but I haven't really messed with it. So many stones so little time.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Read the reviews on that and it seems like a lot of people are satisfied with the stone. 39.99 can't be beat IMO. Also there is the Naniwa 12k SS. More expensive but might be worth it to guarantee consistency and quality?

You can borrow my C12k if you want to give it a test run, to see how you like it.

Not that many really. I'm going to be gone next week but I could bring it tomorrow, or the following week. Just let me know.

I have to work at 3 tomorrow, but if i could swing by someplace and pick it up that'd work out well. I get out of class at 850 if you can think of a way that'd work out.

I'm in a similar boat, I don't want to over use my grandfathers coti as well. I'm going to have to save up though as I want a Japanese natural stone to go with my Oohira stone. That will lessen the use on the coti a bit so it will last long enough to possibly hand it down to the next generation.
