I have tried. It leaves a lot of small chips in the edge.

I have seen recently Sparq and his honing and with my limited experience I did not see anything wrong with it and he brought razor to a good standard edge comparing with pro honemeisters including one which I had from yourself.
To all those either pros or amateurs like me who directly or indirectly honed one of razors I have shaved with you all have done a good job.

To Adrspach: Thank you, I am blushing now.

To Sham: It is good that you have a good performing aoto that we can use as a reference frame. If quality of aotos on the market varies from good users to total failures, you could help us with knowing what to look for. Does your aoto contain any rust-like inclusions or cracks?

To Kevint: Hold your horses sir. I do not think I expressed any discomfort about a mismatch between my expectations and reality. It was a gamble on my side, and I am just telling you what my stone is like.

The stone is blue, but it has rust brown spots. It's not an amakusa, its an aoto, just an aoto with rusty looking areas.

I haven't seen them graded to 3K, is there a specific color of layer recommended? The ones I've seen are estimated to 500-1500 JIS.

Horses held Sparq. Why take it so personally I had in my mind what Holli and Pyment had said.

One old method of dealing with such things is to carve them out, and with aoto you can use whichever side is of best condition. good luck.

    I am cool, Kevin.

All sides look equally bad but I think I will cut it in half to see if I can find a better material there. If not, I will send it to Sham for his evaluation.
