Thanked: 6Well, I just got off the telephone with the guy. Interesting conversation with an interesting person. The guy is American if judging by the accent. Says there are several members on here that own the Type I. He did mention someone in Japan that was less than pleased with the stone he got (I believe he said this was a Type II and that it was a bonus on a different deal, and that he felt the guy was a bit spoiled since he got a great stone for free.)
Says supplies are a bit low now (something about the area being susceptible to flash floods this time of the year, and not willing to risk his neck going there before May). But he did agree to sell me a small type I (Nothing as bad as $180.00). I guess I will have to find out first hand about these. I'll let you know once I get it.

Thanked: 17Is this the only person that sells them? I think he goes out and quarries them himself. I am also curios as to how that jade hone works.

Thanked: 6
I got my Covenant stone today. Come to think of it, it made it here in record time. This is a smaller size stone than the ones I have seen so far, but it also went for a bit less than the ones I saw advertised. I'm not a geologist but it looks like shale with small strata showing on the side cut. It has some imperfections but not more than you would expect any other natural stone. It did not require any lapping at all. In fact, it looks like special care has been taken to make this stone "ready to go" straight out of the box. I soaked it for about 5 minutes before starting to work with it.
So far I have honed two of my razors with it. The first is a dbl duck and the second is the KROPP in the picture.
The stone came with a slurry stone of the same material. It built up a thick creamy slurry very fast. I have to tell you - this one is a winner. It doesn't look like much but it is a relatively fast cutter.
As for the grit, it is quoted as a 6000 but from the feel of it, it is higher than this. It has really nice feedback with a delicate sound of grinding steel while the blade glides across it. I set a bevel with it, and simply went on to sharpen the blade right up to shave ready (minus stropping) I went straight from this stone to about 100 laps on my strop and got a perfect edge, and these razors were dull to begin with. I may not be an expert like others here, but I can recognize quality when I see it.
Sorry for the crappy photo. I'm afraid I'm not much of a photographer either.

Thanked: 6I'm not at all certain who he had in mind. He mentioned no names, and I am certain that there are other people who live in Japan. Besides, would you not have to use it first before you could decide if you like it or not? and as you say yourself, you did not use it.
So, my guess is that he was not referring to you, but someone else entirely. I don't like speculation. If you are that curious about who specifically he was talking about, ask him.
My only interest in this thread is the Covenant stone, and how it functions as a razor hone. I have used it, and I like it a lot.Last edited by DreamRazors; 03-23-2010 at 09:13 AM.

Thanked: 6Mine comes from a standpoint of collection and enthusiasm. Until now, I haven't used them, and also because it sounded cool. There's rarely any structure to my purchases really, and I'm just having fun. Sometimes I take this an extra mile - other times I move on to something new before I've even partly mastered the previous purchase.
Mainly for me it's about having as much fun as possible while learning something along the way.
How about you? Whats your Interest?
