    Default Naniwa progression

    I have naniwa super stones in grids 1k, 3k, 8k and 10k.
When doing bevel work, is it ok to progress from 3k to 8k or do you consider it necessary (and why) to pass by the 5k stone ?

    Thanks all

I assume you have set the bevel on the 1k stone successfully, and have used the 3k stone to sharpen successfully? So at this point you should be able to shave arm hair very easily.

I dont see any reason why you couldnt go straight to the 8k if you had honed correctly and successfully on the lower grit stones. After all, theres no real difference between your 3/8 progression and that of the ubiquitous Norton 4/8..!

If your bevel is set right and you have got a sharp edge on the 3k, then progress to the 8k to polish then the 10k for a few strokes just to finish up. Sounds good to me!

I like to set the bevel on the 1k and then go 3k and 5k and finish with the 8k. If I feel like it the 12k following that.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Usually you will save time and less strokes if you do use close grit progression. example .1,3,5,8,10k
    instead of 1,5,10k
    Is it necessary? not really
