    Yes they are.
They are very good stones. Depends what are you looking for. if you need the best final edge they are not for that purpose.
They are great before escher's. that is the purpose was when i bought it.

Exactly my impression of the one I got, it looks finer than a 16k, but way under 30k.
I got a nice Suita for final polishing.

Beautiful looking stones Sham. I have held back on getting into the Japanese hones. One of these days I will if biz ever picks up. It seems to me that it requires a bit of study to figure out what is what.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I gave in and ordered another one from the same guy Sham. Hopefully I will get it in a few weeks.

I look at it like this:
I figure if it's finer than my current stone...GREAT!

If it's coarser...GREAT! I need a good coticule range japanese to work in before my current finisher.

    If it's equivalent...GREAT! I could always use a backup in case I drop/shatter mine.

If it has "toxic" inclusions... GREAT! I will finally have a high grit natural for sharpening kitchen knives.

It's a win-win for me at any rate

Sham, please stop talking about hones... I'm really wanting an Escher now, and I just reserved 1 coticule from Bart...

    HAD is expensive
