Shapton 30K is the cat's meow in my book!!
Honestly though, they are all so much fun!

While I finish on a coticule, it's a tag team really. I do a few strokes on my Oohira Japanese stone and a few strokes on the coticule and I'm good for a while again

I couldn't decide which to vote on. "Best" hone depends on how sharp I want the razor. That can depend on mood, phase of the moon, and who knows what...
I don't usually like to go past 1 micron on a hone. I never use 0.5 ChroOx anymore, but I do use newspaper after many hones. I know, newspaper is supposed to be finer than Chromium Oxide. Go figure.

I went with the Coticule, I have never used an Escher or a Japanese stone though. Hopefully some day I will be able to say differently!

Thanked: 267I certainly can't afford some of the beautiful stones that are mentioned here. WOW! they look nice! I use a Coticule dry, 16K Shapton, 30K Shapton, then my final is 0.1 micron diamond film on glass. I have been getting some very nice smooth blades out of that. Kinda getto by these standards but it works very well.
Take Care,
Richard
