Thread: My new Escher

HAD attack in November.
Here are the pics.



It has never been lapped and I did not dare to do it completely before I have taken a picture.
The text on the box says:

DIESER echte Wasserstein für Rasiermesser mit nebenstehender Schutzmarke
ist seit Jahrzehnten bewährt und seines milden Kornes wegen hochgeschätzt.
Den feinsten Messern gibt er eine haarfeine dauerhafte Schneide.

Man befeuchte den Stein mit etwas Wasser und reibt mit dem Aufreibersteinchen,
bis ein feiner Schlamm entsteht. In diesem zieht man das Messer flach aufgelegt
gegen die Scheide schräg über den Stein hinweg, wendet es über den Rücken u. s. fort.

THIS genuine water hone for razors with the trade mark beneath
is approved for decades and because of its mild grain highly appreciated.
The finest blades it will give a hair fine durable edge.

One humids the hone with a bit of water and rubs with the little rubber stone,
until a fine slurry forms. Within this (slurry) one pulls the blade flat laid
against the edge diagonally over the hone, flips it over the spine and so forth.

Actually I thought its just plain gray, but Mac insisted on raising it onto the olympus of yellow greens,
so I washed it a little and out came this pic.



On top there is a Müller/Manufactum Thuringian and bottom some old strangely veined one.
With a bit of phantasy its really a bit more than just gray.
Its very soft and I can't wait to use it.

that is great stone OLIVIA . Very nice one . i never seen like this thin and long. i assume this should be early Escher.

I was thinking the same thing looking at the label. Most of those I've seen are in English and German and are probably not as old.

Thank you guys! .... since I have it, costs became a little more painless, LOL

Regarding the label I could imagine that there were labels for export and labels for the business within germany like this one. But from the font and from the original price of 2.30 I also suspect that its pre WWI.

Wow, with the box, label and slurry stone intact. You don't see too much of that!

Congrats Olivia! Beautiful looking stone and complete with box and rubbing stone! Let us know your impressions of the edge after using. Maybe you can pass it around so we all can try it. LOL Just kidding. Use it in good health.
