Default This looks like a black surgical arkansas to me.

Do you all think my guess is correct?

If not, any ideas what it may be?

    Most likely it is not.
what could be only God knows.
The color which you are seeing is not the original color of the stone. it is oil stone and has been used plenty that is why color is black (actually i think real color is reddish) hope this helps.

Well drat. Now that you mention it I notice a red chip in the corner there. What grit did Norton do AlumOx blocks in?

At least I get half of a neat little box. I can clean it and put two razors in it!

At least it looks like at the very least a Fine, so I maybe can find some sort of use for it. A starter for my knives maybe.

can't tell you the size , something like 8" lenght, and ~ 80 bucks.
Just give them a call and see if they can get you one, etc.

Hall's has some good prices on 2 x 6 x 1" (Surgical Black). IIRC the price is around 45 USD + shipping. I like the thicker 1" ones, easier for me to hand hold.

Yeah, If I buy this stone (not this one in thread, a surgy black) it'd be a bridge from 1.2k to 4k king (8k mesh)... So If I'm buying retail I'm going to be trying to get a beefy 2.75"x1"x6" or bigger. It's not proving easy, especially at prices I'm willing to pay. I may wind up just getting a superstone or something similar for that spot in my lineup... Also considering Aoto's and high grit Iyo's, maybe a BBW.
