    I have always lapped in the sink under running water. Is it possible that you have swarf building up and giving you uneven results ?
    Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

    I think so. Since I'm lapping on a flat surface, there is some build up on the sand paper. I'm gonna try again paying a lot of attention to where I place pressure to avoid unevenness in my lapping (if that's even possible). I'll try 350 grit sand paper and rinse more often to see if that'll help.
