This is Very tricky or i should say confusing topic.
I have wondered about it and thought some of member's out of their mind.
    This is the Problem.
1 .confusion comes out from 1k
when someone says i pop up the hairs on 1k -THEY NEVER MENTION what type 1k they are talking about?
    1k norton.
    1k shapton
1k something so on. There is a big differences between 1k Norton and 1k shapton =-in fact it is not really 1k.
Second factor . who does the trick.
Person's body hair =another big factor.
    Third- is the sharpens confusion
Some people thinks if hair pop's up or knife splits hair that is showing knife(or razor is sharp)
In fact both off those tests shows edge is duller(compare to razor edge).
( i really don't wanna go details on this).
hope this helps and clears dots a little.

Exactly what I do on my E 1200. I don't know if other 1k's will do the same, because the DMT 1200 is the only "1k" that I ever use.
