    Default Difference in Naniwa Stones

What is the difference in the Naniwa Super Stones and the Naniwa Japanese Water stone? Is it that the one has to be soaked and the other doesn't? Or is one not made to hone SR's.

Bubba, neither is made to hone straight razors.

NO modern hone is "made" to hone straight razors.

The Super stones have been found, through use, to suit razors well, so they are popular with razor honers. The intended users are high-end knife users (sushi chefs, etc) or woodworkers.

As for the differences, Naniwa has lots of different stones, and almost all are water stones (meaning you hone with water, not oil). ALL of them are Japanese, as Naniwa is a Japanese company. So I think you'll need to be more specific, which "Naniwa Japanese Water Stones" are you talking about?

Jim R is completely right, Naniwa is a japanese company,
so every Naniwa-Hone is a "Naniwa Japanese Water stone".

Naniwa carries several series wich, more or less, vary.
    The most common ones are:

    Naniwa Super Stone,
    Naniwa Chosera,
Naniwa Junpaku (only one single 8k hone, bond in white magnesia)
and Naniwa Home (or sometimes Workstones)

The Superstones are the most commonly used ones. They deliver very good results.
The Naniwa Homestones usually come in combination of a 1k and a 3k hone.
Those are not uncommon in germany as entrance stone,
'cause they are being sold for 20€ here

Maybe you either link us to the stones you are referring to,
or you need to be more specific. I believe we will be able to help you, then
