    Default Lapping stones

    Hi there, new to SRP
    got a question regarding lapping
    stone inventory:
    a few naniwas
    a few shaptons
    For lapping:
    60 grit jumbo plate
    220 small lapping plate
    shapton DGLP

question is , is it okay to use that DGLP to lap the naniwas
seems like a really aggressive lapping plate for the naniwa waterstones.
i ask this because i like using the jumbo plate but leaves the naniwas a little course , where as the 220 grit leaves it really slick but is a little more difficult to lap as it doesn't cover the whole stone.
    thanks

I know Lynn uses his DGLP to lap his Nani's, and I did it when I visited him too. The Nani's are just fine, and the DGLP seemsto be fine too. I know Lynn uses his Nani's a lot (some don't have the grit numbers visible anymore...), and I'm assuming he uses the DGLP to lap a lot, so I doubt you'll run into any problems there. The Nani's are very soft, and the DGLP has those slots to draw away swarth.

Yea, the slots help prevent a slurry buildup, which can eat away at the lapping plate - just as slurry cuts razors faster, it also can wear lapping plates faster. Having slots does mean a little less diamond area on the DGLP, but it's not going to hurt the DGLP or your Naniwas.

I can't speak to the surface finish, though I would trust it if Lynn uses it.

As for taking off too much surface... Lynn uses his hones more in a year than most of us do in a lifetime. If the lapping stone took off that much material, he'd be down to the plastic bases on his Nani's by now.

Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.
