    Default Norton problems

I noticed last night that my 4/8k norton whetstone is growing since it will no longer fit in the plastic holder, it is both longer and wider. Have I soaked it too much? Any thoughts? Thanks.

Maybe you have the everlasting Norton hone hehe...

That's pretty interesting though...I've soaked mine a good bit, but it never swelled up...

Not with a tape measure, but it is quite a bit larger than my 220/1k stone. It is atleast 1/8 in or more longer and wider but the thickness is about the same. I really cant say if this is a new occurence, as I havent used the plastic holders up till now, I usually set them on a folded rag on a plate.

I am talking about not fitting on the top while honing, it will still fit in the boxfor storage.

    OHHHH....yeah, that's normal.

One of my Norton's is the same way I had to force it in there. Now I hold the hones in my hand while honing, so I forgot about that

Mine doesn't fit in the top holder thing either--I just use a DMT non-stick mat. Does the job.

The 4k/8k norton does infact grow when soaked in water, I decided to lap the edges inorder to get it to fit in the holder, which it did barely but as soon as it dried out I had atleast an 1/8 inch of play. I wasnt thinking while lapping and forgot to pay attention to which side is which, is the white the 4k and yellow 8k? After rubbing my finger over them that is what I am thinking, is it correct? Thanks.

I just stick mine in the DMT holder. Works better, IMO. The Norton cases really are not all that stable anyways.
