Lightbulb Think I have an Escher (temporarily)

I went to my barber the other day to get my unruley mop trimmed & noticed a box of stones--one of which I just finished lapping (after agreeing to bring it back next week). It's ~8.5x1.5 & super fine. Greyish-blue color. Took 5-10 min on my D8C. There's also another one ~4x1.5 that has a speck or reddish paper w/ black lettering on it. I'm almost positive that's an Escher. How about the bigger one? (Hone/shave test coming up!!!)

I'll post pics in a bit.

I don't know, but I have it bloody bad! Razors seemed awfully sharp after stropping... Only a little crox after, so we'll see...

Well, after test-shaving off of both, here's what I've found. Sharpness is about the same as off a coticule, slightly less smooth than said coticule, but not much of a difference. Didn't bother raising a slurry on either one. Pics are coming...

I thought you are going to post picture of your escher.
Would appreciate if you explain how did you use escher and coticule.
    step by step will help.
    thank You

Here is the pic. I did ~30 strokes w/ just water coming off the Norton. The coticule I usually do a dilucot. If I use the Norton 1st, I'll usually do @ least 50 laps on the coticule, again water only, weight of the blade only until toward the end where I use even less pressure.

I think you're supposed to use slurry with an Escher as a finisher, only a light slurry though. I think Sham uses a slurry on his Eschers when he uses them as a finisher. It should be sharper than a coticule's edge, I have shaved with both edges and the Escher wins over a coticule edge as far as sharpness. The coticule may feel nicer on your face but that's just a matter of using an even lighter touch with a scything motion on the shave when using an Escher. The shave can be closer than a coticule edge, but this is opinion and a matter of tastes. I am surprised no one else has answered your question since posting the picture. It looks like like an Escher would look but I am not an expert, I don't own one.

Does your hone have saw marks on the sides ? Most of the Eschers I have seen have the marks of the saw cutting. Many of them are not flat on the side where the label was but look as if they were hewn out of the rock in the quarry. Very uneven surface on the bottom. Just some of the characteristics I've noticed. Whether it is an Escher or a Thuringan if it is a good hone that is all that is important.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
