    Exclamation q about lapping

    hey guys

please advise me if a dmt continuous diamond fine 600 grit is a good lapping plate because a cannot see the 325 on srd site anymore

will it do the job fine? im thinking a chinese 12k for example... will the dmt fine 600 grit manage it?

Please mention if u did use it and what was your experience,Thanks

    Best Regards,

    iulian

I would be weary to use the DMT Fine on a C12k - the C12k is very hard and might strip off the diamonds, and the C12k is very slow to lap so it would take a long time with a 600 grit. You should be able to get a DMTC from Woodcraft (which carries the C12k as well), or craftmanstudio.com is a good source too.

I think DMT recommends that nothing finer than the coarse (325) be used for lapping, for the very same reason Holli mentions & that under constant running water.

If you let a slurry really build up on the stone, 1) you'll have stiction issues; 2) the (abrasive) slurry will cut the nickel holding the diamonds in place.

How about just waiting a bit until SRD resupplies - they must be fresh out (you can ask them when do they expect next shipment)?

The XXC will cut faster, but it will leave deeper scratches. No biggie if you have some good wet/dry sandpaper or something else to remove them. You could contact SRD to see if they will be restocking soon.
