    Default What is a lap?

When people say '50 laps on a hone etc..' is that 50 as in 25 up, 25 down, or 50 up 50 down??

    thanks

That would be 50 both ways... 1 lap = 1 pass on each bevel.

Lapping also refers to flattening a hone that has had a concave worn into it.

Laps in a hone are like laps in a pool - out and back.
