Here's a hone I picked up yesterday in an antique shop. Dimensions are roughly 1 1/4 by 5 7/8 inches. Its a very dark slate gray color almost black. The surface is super slick an shiny, any guesstimates as to what this might be?

Judging by your pictures I would say you have an Escher or Escheresque stone. I believe they are thuringans...is that correct Jimmy?

Escher is one brand of Thuringian, but I don't know enough about them to say if that is one. Looks and sounds like it to me, though.

Looks like something in the Thuringan family to me too. See how it works on your razors and you'll know soon enough.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Try raising a slurry; can't do that with an Arkansas, but an Escher or Thuringian will form a light creamy slurry.
