Thanked: 24Carborundum hone
Carborundum hone i found in my dads garage. Does anyone have any information on what the number 100 means?
Did i find a decent stone, or is it just an old throw away?
Any information would be greatly appreciated!

I see that the case is stamped "Instrument Hone". Looks like you will have to get on down to the music store and buy yourself an instrument. Choose carefully.
Seriously though, that looks to be about the right size for sharpening fish hooks and EXACTO knives. Looks too small for razors.JERRY

I've got a 102 in a box marked 'razor hone' @ 4x1 1/2 and a 101A also marked 'razor hone' on the box @ 5x2 . I seem to recall reading that Carborundum numbered their hones from fine to more coarse so a 100 ought to be finer than a 102, IOW if it is big enough good for razors, but I'm not sure about that.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 522I have a Corborundum 118S as a companion stone to my 3 Line Swaty. See photo...........
I am not sure about the numbers and their significance but the 118S is used to flatten the Swaty. Also, there is no info on the original box except that the stone is made in Niagra Falls, NY
Also, I have a stone similar in size to Brandt's posted above. I would post a photo but I don't know where I put it. It also has a leather case. I know that I was using it to sharpen small pocket knives years ago. They are handy to have around.
As far as razors are concerned, Sham was going to do some experiments with Carborundum stones. He may have some info regarding the numbering of the Carborundums. We would all be interested in knowing about that.JERRY
