Thanked: 30What is the grit grade for a vintage Thuringian?
I just recently added a vintage Thuringian to my kit. My question is,what is the grit grade of a Thuringian? I want to buy a few naniwa hones just to refresh my razors. My question also reflects on the purchase of a naniwa 12k hone. If the Thurry is similar in grit,do I need to buy a naniwa 12k hone?

Thanked: 1903I presume that by "Thurry" (is that some sort of ghetto slang used in the other forum?) you mean a Thuringian hone. If so, Category:SRP Hone Database - Straight Razor Place Wiki has the details. You should, however, keep in mind that natural hones do not have a grit size. Therefore, the grits listed in the database are approximations, based on a comparison with synthetic hones. Arguably, this item should be deleted from the database.
Furthermore, there are many hones available from the Thüringen region, similar to Coticules. So there is no definitive answer to your question, other than that both can be used as finishing hones.
